Cooking VR
One player needs a VR headset. Cooking VR is hosted from virtual reality. The player in the headset opens the restaurant and everyone else joins them from a phone, tablet, or web browser. The phone, tablet, and browser versions are companion clients — they join a kitchen, they cannot start one.
What you need to play
- One host in VR. A Meta Quest, a Valve Steam Frame, or a PC headset running OpenXR.
- Everyone else on anything. iPhone, iPad, or a desktop browser at files.jumpchase.com/cooking.
- An internet connection for all players.
How to join a kitchen
- Ask your host to start the game in their headset.
- Open Cooking VR and choose to join a game.
- Enter the code your host reads out, then mark yourself ready. The host starts the round once everybody is.
Why can't I host?
The kitchen is built around reaching out and grabbing things with your hands, and the host simulates that world for everyone. A touchscreen can take part in it, but it can't run it. If the host button is unavailable and you see "Hosting requires VR", that is working as intended — you need somebody in a headset to open a kitchen for you.
I can't connect
- Double-check the join code. They are short and easy to mishear.
- Make sure the host is still in the lobby. Codes stop working shortly after a host leaves.
- Strict work, school, or guest networks sometimes block game traffic. Trying another network usually settles it.
The game runs slowly
Close other apps and try again. On older phones, a busy kitchen with several players is the hardest case; the later restaurants are more demanding than the first ones.
Ascension Override
One player needs a VR headset. Ascension Override is hosted from virtual reality. That player is the Overseer, a giant looming over a miniature factory, and everyone else joins from a phone, tablet, or web browser as a rogue worker hiding in the crowd. The phone, tablet, and browser versions are companion clients — they join a game, they cannot start one.
What you need to play
- One host in VR. A Meta Quest, a Valve Steam Frame, an Apple Vision Pro, or a PC headset running OpenXR.
- Everyone else on anything. iPhone, iPad, or a desktop browser at files.jumpchase.com/ascension-override.
- The same Wi-Fi as the host, or an internet connection and the host's room code.
How to join a game
- Ask your host to start the game in their headset.
- Open Ascension Override and pick the game. On the same Wi-Fi the host's room is found for you; otherwise enter the room code the host reads out.
- Choose a name and mark yourself ready. The host starts the round once everybody is.
How do I win?
Shut down every control panel in the factory and reach the exit without the Overseer working out which worker is you. Move like the crowd does: a worker that sprints in circles is the one that gets picked up.
